How it Works
A cool blue light activates a safe
photosensitizing agent (Levulan)
that is applied to your skin before
treatment. This process selectively
kills a bacterium that causes acne
without adversely affecting
surrounding skin.

What a Treatment is Like
Levulan cream is applied to the affected
area, and then you simply relax in Blu-U
light, the total treatment time takes about
one hour. The number of treatments will
depend on your needs, which will be
determined at an initial appointment
with one of our physicians.

During treatment, you may feel a warm
sensation and afterwards there can be
slight swelling and redness of the acne
and surrounding skin similar to a
sunburn that will subside within a
couple of days. Acne lesions dry, heal
and fade as treatments progress.

After the initial series of prescribed
treatments, acne tends to remain under
control for months at a time with
maintenance treatments performed as
needed in order to prevent new
acne flare-ups.

Typically, patients see improvements
after several treatments but results
may vary.
